Rebate 101

Rebates are a great way to reduce your out-of-pocket spending. Many people think rebates aren’t worth the effort because you’re still paying the money up front and have the added cost of a stamp.  I can’t begin to explain how misguided this is.

The best thing about rebates is you can stack them (most of the time) with coupons, sales, and store promotional deals (such as CVS Extra-Care Bucks, Walgreens Register Rewards, or Target GiftCards deals).  This stacking upon stacking of savings significantly lowers your out-of-pocket expense in the end – and often means you get PAID to SHOP!  (Hello, moneymakers.)

The trick with rebates is to spend your rebate money wisely.  Just because you have a $10 check from a rebate promotion doesn’t mean you have $10 to spend on junk food or the latest Wii game.  No!  This is money that you have already spent.  You want to save that money or spend it wisely – either by sticking the money into your weekly budget, or rolling your rebate into more deals such as rebates, ECBs, RRs, etc.

That being said… if you’re anything like me, then you have probably forgotten about a really awesome rebate, only to find the form later and see that it has expired.  (Hello, Naked Juice rebate.)  Or even worse – purchased items that qualify for a rebate, but forgotten to mail the rebate form?  (Hello, Aveeno rebate.)

That brings me to this page.

I’ve decided to post a list on my blog of all active rebates, their expiration dates, and any information about the rebate that I think is important.

• Filtrete.  Save $3 by mail-in-rebate when you purchase a Filtrete Air Filter with a 1000 micro particle performance rating (MPR) or greater.  Offer expires 3/15/10.
